Pedaling Paths: From Virtual Training to Gravel Adventures

As the wheels of anticipation keep turning, let's delve deeper into the journey leading up to the Rose City Rampage. A pivotal part of my preparation has been training, both in the digital realm of Zwift and the rugged beauty of outdoor trails.

Let's rewind a bit to December 2023, when I welcomed the Zwift Hub One smart trainer into my cycling arsenal. Setting it up was no small feat, especially with life throwing its curveballs, but perseverance prevailed, and soon, I found myself immersed in a virtual world of training possibilities—hello, Watopia! Fast-forward to now, and I've clocked an unimpressive 16 hours and 40 minutes on Zwift, covering 423 kilometers of simulated terrain. More to come, though, for sure, thanks to the Team Type 1 group on Zwift and the ability to hold meetings/conversations during recovery rides!

What makes Zwift such a game-changer for me? Well, besides the convenience of indoor training, it's the ability to target specific elements of my cycling performance. Whether I'm focusing on power output, endurance drills, or interval training, Zwift provides the tools and motivation to push my limits and track progress effectively.

Of course, fueling these intense training sessions is key, and I swear by my trusty companions: Picky Bars and Nuun. Not only are they delicious and packed with the nutrients I need, but being a Picky Bar "Ambadassador" adds an extra layer of connection to my training journey. As I gear up for ultra-endurance adventures in 2025 & 2026, experimenting with different fueling strategies and brands will be a priority in 2024, aiming to find the perfect balance of energy, hydration, and endurance support.

But let's not forget the allure of hitting the trails outdoors. There's something magical about being immersed in nature, breathing in the fresh air, and tackling the challenges that only the great outdoors can offer. Gravel trails in North Florida, with their ever-changing terrain and the solitude of the swamp, provide the perfect backdrop for honing skills, building resilience, and finding moments of pure joy amidst the ride.

As I straddle both worlds, virtual training and outdoor adventures, I'm reminded of the unique strengths each platform brings to my cycling journey. Zwift keeps me disciplined, focused, and data-driven, while outdoor rides feed my soul, spark my creativity, and remind me of the raw beauty of nature.

So, whether I'm logging kilometers on Zwift or conquering gravel trails, the goal remains the same: to push boundaries, embrace challenges, and find fulfillment in the rhythm of the pedals. As the Rose City Rampage draws near, I carry with me the lessons learned, the miles conquered, and the unwavering passion for two-wheeled adventures.

Join me in this pedal-powered odyssey, where every turn of the crank brings us closer to new horizons and endless possibilities. The road (and trail) beckons and the journey continues, fueled by determination, fueled by joy, fueled by the sheer love of riding.

Until next time, keep spinning, keep exploring, and keep the wheels of adventure rolling. Cheers to the ride ahead!
